The Cadets within the ATC get to experience many different activities from learning how read a map ot learning to fly a plane and gain a Private Pilot License, but of course all of that takes effort and commitment no matter what they decide to do. We’ve seperated the most common activities in the categories below.
Cadet Classification Progressive Syllabus
Cadets is about learning new skills and taking part in new experiences and having fun but there is a lot of learning to be done too, in fact some new skills require some classroom-based learning before you can put it into practice. All cadets start out in our ‘training’ flight where they learn the necessary modules to pass into being a First Class Cadet, after that they are expected to study towards the next class and to successfully complete their classification exams. Below are the classifications and their modules.
First Class Cadet

To progress to be a First Class Cadet, cadets are to work through their First Class Workbook and complete a basic Drill Assessment, we will teach the cadets the following subjects:
- The Air Training Corps
- The Royal Air Force
- History of Flight
- Basic Principles of Airmanship
- Map Reading
- Initial Expedition Training
- Basic Radio Communications
- Basic Drill
Leading Cadet

This is the next step, to progress to be a Leading Cadet, cadets must study the following subjects before passing a set of module exams. The modules are:
- Principles of Flight
- Airmanship Knowledge
- Basic Navigation with Map & Compass
Senior Cadet

This is the next step, to progress to be a Senior Cadet, cadets must study any three of the following subjects before passing a set of module exams. The modules are:
- Aircraft Handling & Flying Techniques
- Air Power
- Piston Engine Propulsion
- Jet Engine Propulsion
- Rocketry
- Air Frames
- Avionics & Aircraft Electrical Systems
- Military Aircraft Systems
- Air Navigation
- Principles of Pilot Navigation
- Advanced Radio & Radar
- Data Communications
Master Cadet

To progress to be a Master Cadet, cadets must be 15 and need to study any three modules (those NOT selected for Senior Cadet) before passing a set of module exams. The Modules are:

- Air Power
- Piston Engine Propulsion
- Jet Engine Propulsion
- Rocketry
- Air Frames
- Avionics & Aircraft Electrical Systems
- Military Aircraft Systems
- Air Navigation
- Principles of Pilot Navigation
- Advanced Radio & Radar
- Data Communications
Ground & Greens

Enjoy navigating or learning how to live and cope in the great outdoors or learning how to shoot a rifle (or shotgun) accurately. Even administer effective first aid.
Sports are another diverse sector for cadets to excel in and compete.
Ceremonial & Drill

Cadets take pride in their public duties and appearances, Ceremonial & Drill activities take many months to perfect but there is no greater feeling than knowing you’ve represented the Squadron at a competition and done it well.
Flying & Blues

Many would say that the whole point of joining the ATC is to learn to fly and plane, well we can certainly put you on the right track to a license. All cadets are given the opportunity to learn how a plane is able to fly and get to experience it first hand.
