Formed back on 18th March 1941, Blackburn Squadron has been providing a local unit for cadets for over 80 years. There’s not much written history about the unit but we managed to uncover some pictures from old photo albums. 1262 was originally Headquartered on Preston New Road and was linked to 657 (Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School) in addition to Squadrons at Darwen (353) and Great Harwood & Rishton (2091). During World War 2 the Squadrons laid an event to recruit young men (aged 15¼) to gain experience in order to serve with The Royal Air Force or the Royal Navy.

Some uncovered photos from the photo books but if you do have any other historical information please do let us know, we’d be happy to include it.
